College Nine

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

Introduction to University Discourse: International and Global Issues is the required fall-quarter course for all College Nine first-year students. The seminar addresses the college’s focus on international and global issues while developing students’ writing, reading, oral-presentation, and critical-thinking skills.

EDUCATIONAL ENRICHMENT AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES

  • Exploring a World of Possibilities, an optional two-credit class offered in winter quarter, explores cultural practices and experiences across the world. Students can gain experience as teachers by enrolling in Teaching a World of Possibilities.
  • UN Workshop is an optional two-credit class offered in winter quarter. Students simulate the UN as delegates who work together to solve global problems.
  • The distinguished College Nine Leadership Certificate is awarded to students who actively participate in a series of leadership programs, workshops, and volunteer opportunities.
  • Students in the Praxis service-learning program volunteer or earn course credit for working at a community school or agency.
  • The college sponsors student participation with campus research centers focusing on international affairs, including the Center for Global, International and Regional Studies (CGIRS).
  • The International Living Center (ILC), located in the Colleges Nine and Ten apartments, offers juniors and seniors the opportunity to live with students from all over the world.

HOUSING AND DINING

  • Residence halls and apartment buildings house students in single, double, and triple rooms.
  • All two and four-bedroom apartments have full kitchens, living rooms, bathrooms, and internet connections. Ground-floor apartments have decks, and upper apartments have private balconies.
